Game Description

Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is a real-time strategy video game published by Microsoft and developed by Ensemble Studios. It is the second game in the Age of Empires series, released in 1999 for Microsoft Windows and Macintosh. The Age of Kings takes place in the Middle Ages and features thirteen playable civilizations. Players’ goal is to gather resources, which they will use to build towns, and armies, and defeat their opponents. There are five historically based campaigns that place the player in specialized and story-driven situations, as well as three additional single-player game modes; multiplayer is also available.

Despite using the same game engine and code as its predecessor, The Age of Kings took a year longer to develop, forcing Ensemble Studios to release Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome instead of in 1998. The design team focused on resolving major issues in Age of Empires, but some issues remained after ages of empire 2 was released.

The Age of Kings received a resoundingly positive response. A significant number of new features, as well as gameplay improvements, were lauded. According to video game review aggregator Metacritic, the game received “universal acclaim.” Two million copies of The Age of Kings were shipped three months after its release, and it topped sales charts in seven countries. Ages of empire 2 won numerous awards and is now regarded as a genre classic, having had a significant influence on future games in the genre. The Gold Edition included the original Age of Empires II and its 2000 expansion pack, The Conquerors. Age of Empires II is widely regarded as one of the best games ever created.

Age of Empires II: HD Edition, an updated high-definition graphics version of ages of empire 2, was released in 2013. The HD Edition contains the original game as well as the expansion of The Conquerors, as well as new campaigns, civilizations, and graphics optimized for high-resolution displays. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, a remaster, was released in November 2019.

Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Download For Windows PC Gameplay

Age of Empires II is a real-time strategy game in which players construct towns, harvest resources, and develop armies in order to beat their opponents. Players advance one of thirteen civilizations through four “Ages”—the Dark Age, the Feudal Age, the Castle Age (representing the High Middle Ages), and the Imperial Age (representing the Renaissance)—over a 1,000-year period. Players must first develop certain buildings from their current age and then pay a number of resources to advance to a New Age, which unlocks additional units, structures, and technologies (typically food and gold).

Civilian units are known as “villagers” are used to gather resources; they can be male or female and their abilities are unaffected by gender. Players can use resources to train units, build structures, and research technologies, among other things; for example, players can research better infantry armor. There are four types of resources in ages of empire 2: food, wood, gold, and stone. Food is obtained by hunting animals, gathering berries, harvesting livestock, farming, and fishing from both land and sea. Wood is obtained by felling trees. Gold can be obtained through gold mines, trade, or by collecting relics in a monastery. Stone is extracted from mines. Checkpoints, typically depository buildings (town center, mining camp, mill, and lumber yard), are required by villagers to store gathered resources.

Each civilization can purchase upgrades that increase the rate at which these resources are gathered. Players can also build a trade marketplace where they can exchange wood, stone, and food for gold, which they can then use to purchase other resources. Every transaction causes a change in market prices. Additionally, markets and docks can generate gold by sending trading carts or cogs to foreign markets and ports; when they return to the player’s market/dock, gold is added to the stockpile. The amount of gold earned by a trade unit on each trip is determined by the distance traveled to a foreign market; longer trips earn more gold. Trading with enemy markets or docks is possible, but the player’s trading units may be attacked or destroyed in the process. Players do not need to keep trading manually because once they choose a port or market, the trading units trade automatically and indefinitely.

The Age of Kings features five campaigns with historically accurate scenarios such as Genghis Khan’s invasion of Eurasia, Barbarossa’s Crusade, and Saladin’s defense of the Holy Land. In the Joan of Arc and William Wallace campaigns, the player can command a unit named after its namesake; in others, players receive orders from guiding spirits who represent the army’s commander.

In The Age of Kings, the player has access to additional game modes.  One mode, random map, generates a map from one of several randomly selected map-generating scripts, with players beginning in the Dark Age with a Town Center, three villagers (or more depending on the civilization), and a scout unit. Military conquest, constructing a special building known as a Wonder and keeping it standing for a set amount of time, or gaining control of all relics on the map for a set amount of time are all ways to win age of empire ii. In the deathmatch mode, players start with a large number of resources, emphasizing military dominance, whereas in the regicide mode, each player is given a king unit, with the goal of killing all of the other monarchs.

Units and civilizations

Every player has an upper limit to the number of units they can create (a population limit), but they cannot use their entire potential population right away. The population capacity, which can be set between 25 and 200 in increments of 25, is determined by the number of houses, Castles, or Town Centers—the main building in a player’s town—that have been constructed. The Age of Kings introduced two significant new unit management features: the idle villager button, which assists players in identifying villagers who have not been assigned a task, and the town bell, which sends all of the player’s villagers into their Town Center, Castle, or tower for safety; units garrisoned within these three buildings, particularly archers, increase the building’s firepower (towers fire more arrows with units garrisoned inside), including the Town Center.

There are five types of military units in the Age of Kings: infantry, archers, cavalry, siege weapons, and naval units. Certain types of infantry, archers, and cavalry are referred to as “counter units,” and they have special defenses against other types of units. The three human military classes generally follow a rock-paper-scissors model. Infantry, for example, is generally strong against buildings but weak against cavalry, so infantry counter units—spearmen and pikemen—have attack bonuses against cavalry.

In The Age of Kings, each civilization has one or two special units that are unique to that civilization. The Britons, for example, have access to longbowmen, an archery unit with increased range. Although these civilization-specific units are generally more powerful, they still adhere to the basic rock-paper-scissors model. The monk is a type of military unit that can convert enemy units to the player’s civilization and heal allied units. Monks can also be used to collect relics, which accumulate gold once they are held in the player’s monastery—the more relics captured, the faster the gold accumulates. Depending on the victory condition, collecting all relics on the map is one way for a player to win a random map game. A timer is displayed to all players once a player has collected all of the relics in their monasteries. The player who controls all of the relics wins if they keep control of the relics for the duration of the timer.

Players select one of 13 civilizations divided into four architectural styles—Western European, Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and East Asian—that determine the appearance of buildings in-game. The civilizations differ in their economic, technological, and combat strengths and weaknesses, and each has access to one or more different, extremely powerful “Unique Units.” Furthermore, in team games, each civilization provides an individual team bonus. To add variety, each civilization has a set of sound bites in its native language that units utter when they are chosen or instructed to perform a task.

Buildings in The Age of Kings are classified as either economic or military. Buildings can research and upgrade technologies to improve economic, military, or unit-based efficiency, as well as provide resources to the player.

The Town Center is the most important economic structure, where villagers are created, all types of resources can be stored, some technologies are researched, and the player can advance to the next Age. If villagers or archers are garrisoned inside the Town Center while enemy units are within range, the Town Center can fire arrows at them. Other economic structures include resource storage buildings, farms, docks (which may also produce several military ships), and houses to support a larger population.

Military buildings include both unit-producing structures like barracks, archery ranges, stables, and castles and defensive structures like walls and towers. Military buildings can conduct research to improve military units’ abilities, such as increasing their strength, defensive capabilities, or other capabilities. Castles are important offensive and defensive structures because they can construct trebuchets, train the civilization’s “unique unit/s,” and fire a hail of arrows at enemy units within range, with garrisoned units firing additional arrows. Castles can only be built after a player reaches the Castle Age, though in some game modes, players start with an already-built castle as early as the Dark Age.

After reaching the Imperial Age, players can also build a Wonder, a costly non-military structure. Building a Wonder starts a victory countdown in many gameplay modes; unless it is destroyed within a certain timeframe, the player who built it wins. Every civilization’s Wonder takes the form of a real-world landmark that is specific to that historical culture.

Single-player campaigns

The Age of Kings included five campaigns, each with multiple playable scenarios that advance a storyline and each centered on a different civilization. The William Wallace (Celts) campaign serves as a tutorial campaign, teaching the player how to move units, gather resources, and build armies in order to defeat the enemy. It takes place during King Edward I Longshanks’ Wars of Scottish Independence against the English. In the Frankish campaign, the player leads Joan of Arc in the Hundred Years’ War against the English. Saladin and his efforts to repel Crusaders in the Middle East are featured in the Saracen campaign, while Genghis Khan’s conquest of Eurasia is documented in the Mongol campaign, and Frederick Barbarossa’s ambitious expansion of the Holy Roman Empire is featured in the Teuton campaign. The campaigns are sorted numerically by difficulty, with William Wallace being the easiest and Barbarossa and Saladin being the two most difficult.

Multiplayer is available in Age of Kings via the Internet or a local area network (LAN). Up to eight players can participate in a single game, with all single-player game modes available. Age of empire ii was supported by the MSN Gaming Zone until the service was discontinued on June 19, 2006. Following that, it was supported by a number of multiplayer gaming services, including GameRanger. Since April 2013, Steam has supported HD resolution in-game multiplayer.
