Test Drive Unlimited is an open-world racing video game published by Atari for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. It was developed by Eden Games. The PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable versions were created by Atari Melbourne House. The game includes over 125 licensed sports cars and motorcycles, and the terrain is based on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, which has over 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) of roads and highways.
In 2011, it was quickly followed by its sequel, Test Drive Unlimited 2. A third game, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, is in the works (with KT Racing and Nacon replacing Eden Games and Atari, respectively).

In Test Drive Unlimited’s online world, players can drive both on-road and off-road in free-roam mode, challenging other players in real-time anywhere on the drivable map. Outside of the main island, it is also possible to drive on small islands. Since its inception, the Xbox 360 version has supported steering wheel controllers. Test Drive Unlimited now supports force feedback wheel controllers, such as Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel, thanks to the third free update.
The roads are based on satellite imagery of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Rainforests, mountains, sandy beaches, and urbanized areas make up a diverse range of terrains (featuring the city of Honolulu). Other built-up areas on the island, on the other hand, are not represented. Several government buildings (such as those on Pearl Harbor, Camp H. M. Smith, and Hickam Air Force Base), commercial buildings (Ala Moana Center, the convention center, the entire commercial strip in Pearl City, and the Pearlridge Center), and notable landmarks (statue of King Kamehameha I, USS Missouri, and so on) are not present in the game, despite the game’s advertising material implying otherwise. Many roads and highways are also absent or are located far away from their real-world counterparts. The ships docked in Pearl Harbor are similarly in very poor condition, and they do not represent any active or decommissioned US Navy warship.
