Game Description
True Crime: Streets of LA is a 2003 open world action-adventure video game developed by Luxoflux and released by Activision in November 2003 for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox, in May 2004 for Microsoft Windows, and in March 2005 for Mac OS X. In November 2004, a mobile phone adaptation was launched. Nicholas Kang, an uncompromising Los Angeles police officer, is recruited into the Elite Operations Division to investigate a string of bombings in Chinatown in the game. As he investigates the case further, he realizes that it may be linked to the disappearance of his father, a police officer, twenty years prior. The game includes a 240-square-mile (622-square-kilometer) re-creation of a huge chunk of Los Angeles, including much of Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, with most street names, landmarks, and highways correctly reproduced.
The film Streets of LA earned mixed to good reviews. The game’s ambitious nature, setting, distinctiveness from Grand Theft Auto III, branching storyline, and overall ‘feel’ were commended by several reviews. Graphical and technical issues, an unlikable protagonist, and poorly integrated gameplay were all common concerns. True Crime: New York City was released in 2005, and it was a commercial success, selling over three million units worldwide across all platforms.
