Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! Gameplay

Spyro the Dragon is controlled by the player as he battles various foes and obstructions with the use of his flame breath, charge attack and glide powers. The color of his dragonfly companion, Sparx, who can restore his health by consuming butterflies, serves as a visual indicator of his health. Bottled butterflies will give Spyro an additional life and fully recover Sparx’s health. Spyro 2 Riptos Rage! is divided into three primary hub worlds that each have a gateway to a different dimension. The player must obtain a talisman from each realm—awarded for completing a level—before facing the boss of each planet in order to advance through the first two hub worlds. A specific number of orbs are also present in each level, and they can be obtained by fulfilling sidequests for specific NPCs like defending targets from attacks or lighting a string of lamps. These orbs are necessary for passing through the third hub globe as well as opening some of the portals to specific levels. To advance through the Spyro 2 Riptos Rage!, Moneybags levies fees that must be paid with gems acquired throughout the course of the Spyro 2: Riptos Rage!. Over the course of the Spyro 2 Ripto’s Rage!, Moneybags teaches Spyro three all-new skills in addition to unlocking portals or allowing access to specific locations. Spyro’s abilities to swim and climb allow him to go underwater to find hidden passageways and hidden wealth, while his head bash assault allows him to smash through walls and shatter some prisons. A power-up gate that activates after Spyro defeats a predetermined amount of foes in a level also exists in each one, giving him a momentary superpower. The power-up can provide the user invulnerability, flight, supercharge, super flame, the ability to breathe ice, or the capacity to super jump to reach high places.

Characters and setting

Spyro, the game’s protagonist, and Sparx, his dragonfly sidekick, are the only characters from the original Spyro 2 Ripto’s Rage! to make a comeback as key characters in this one. Sparx serves as the player’s health indicator and aids in gem collection. The Spyro series gains several new characters in this Spyro 2: Riptos Rage!, many of whom would show up in subsequent Spyro 2 Riptos Rage! While Ripto would have more series appearances than any other enemy, making him the main antagonist of the original series, Hunter and Moneybags both make regular cameos throughout the show. A totally new cast of characters, including fauns, satyrs, anthropomorphic animals, and robotic businesspeople, have taken the place of the dragons from the previous installment.

The Summer Forest, the Autumn Plains, and the Winter Tundra are the three domains that make up the world of Avalar. Every realm has a castle that Ripto eventually takes control of during the plot. There are several distinct planets, a speedway world, and a dungeon where Ripto or his minions are hidden in each realm.
