Lego Loco is a Microsoft Windows-based virtual world game based on the Lego brand. It was launched in November 1998. It’s a straightforward open-ended construction game with a focus on rail transportation. The goal of the game is to build a village for Lego people to live in. This was the first game published by Lego Media, The Lego Group’s publishing business, which was established following the commercial success of Mindscape’s Lego Island.

The player is given a “Toy Box” at the start of the game, from which they can choose structures from a list and set them directly in the space allocated. Roads, railway lines, stations, crossings, buildings, and scenery are all possible. The player must close the Toy Box to begin the simulation, after which the town will spring to life (though the player can open it again to make changes, save the town, or open a new one). After a period, Lego figures will begin to move into the offered (if any) dwellings, and the player can pick them up and arrange them elsewhere, just like regular figures. Depending on where it’s positioned, this can change the figure’s mood.
The player can manufacture trains to run on the railway lines by using the train house (engine shed). If a train contains passenger carriages, it will stop at any of the stations set up along the track. The player can manage the railway’s speed and direction, as well as add a postal carriage to the train, allowing it to transport player-created postcards. The train or trains can also pass via tunnels that the player can build near the map’s edge, and some tunnels can be used to let players trade postcards (provided a network has been set).
