Axis & Allies is a real-time strategy World War II video game for Microsoft Windows developed by TimeGate Studios and published by Atari. On November 2, 2004, the game was released. It is based on Milton Bradley’s Axis & Allies board game series, as well as TimeGate’s Kohan series. Set in the years following Japan and the United States’ entry into the war, the game allows the player to take on the role of a World War II commander, constructing military forces to fight against other generals while employing wartime military units and technologies. The player has the ability to rewrite and recreate World War II history.
Following the company’s closure in 2013, the game was TimeGate’s best-selling game release. The game received positive reviews, though some critics claimed it fell short in terms of AI mechanics and an overemphasis on base management. Encore Software renamed the game Axis & Allies: Collector’s Edition and released it on August 28, 2006.
