  • Spider-Man: The Movie

    Spider-Man: The Movie

    Game Description

Spider-Man is a 2002 action-adventure video game based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is also known as Spider-Man: The Movie. It was released on April 16, 2002, in North America (two weeks before the film’s release) for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance, and on June 7, 2002, in Europe for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance. In 2005, the Game Boy Advance version was re-released and bundled on a Twin Pack cartridge with Spider-Man 2: The Game.  While the game directly adapts the plot of the film on which it is based, it also expands on it by including scenes and villains not seen in the film. Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe reprise their roles as Spider-Man and the Green Goblin, respectively, from the film, while Bruce Campbell, who played a wrestling ring announcer in the film, narrates the tutorial and bonus levels.

Activision published Spider-Man The Movie in North America, and Capcom co-published it in Japan. It was primarily developed by Treyarch and Activision subsidiary that had previously ported Neversoft’s 2000 Spider-Man video game to Windows and Dreamcast. It received generally positive reviews upon its initial release, and despite some criticism of its length, voice acting, and camera control, it went on to become a best-seller. Following the success of the game, Treyarch took over as lead developer for all Spider-Man titles published by Activision until 2008, producing Spider-Man 2, based on the 2004 film of the same name, Ultimate Spider-Man, based on the comic book series of the same name and released in 2005, Spider-Man 3, based on the 2007 film of the same name, and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, which had an original story and was released in 2008.

    [title] Gameplay

Spider-Man, like its 2000 predecessor and 2001 sequel, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, is a level-based beat ’em up video game in which the player assumes the role of the superhero Spider-Man. While the majority of the levels are set indoors, there are several levels set outside, among New York’s skyscrapers, that require the player to web-sling from building to building, as falling below a certain height results in an instant Game Over. Levels use a scoring system that takes into account more factors, such as “Time” (clear level in a certain amount of time), “Perfect” (not take damage/not be detected), and “Style” (use as many combos as possible). Other features of some levels include “Secrets” (discover a secret area), “Combat” (defeat all enemies), and “Stealth” (remain undetected by enemies). Players can earn points for completing these tasks based on their difficulty level. Each bonus is worth 500 points in easy mode, 700 points in normal mode, and 1000 points in hero mode.

Swinging, zipping, punching and kicking, dodging, web, camera lock, and the Web Mode in Enhanced Mode are the basic abilities. The results will vary depending on how the player combines different buttons. Wall-crawling is automatic, and players can lift heavy and light objects like cars and chairs. There are 21 different combos that can be unlocked by collecting Gold Spiders, each with a different type of “upgrade.” The Amazing Spider-Man 2 full Movie also includes stealth segments in which Spider-Man can hide in the shadows and avoid detection by the enemy. While the majority of the amazing Spider-Man full Movie is played in the third person, a cheat code allows players to switch to a first-person view.

Completing the story mode on each difficulty unlocks different bonuses, namely alternate skins for Spider-Man: completing it on at least easy unlocks Peter Parker in his civilian outfit and Spider-wrestler Man’s costume; completing it on at least normal unlocks Alex Ross’ prototype design for the movie Spider-Man costume (which also causes the Green Goblin to have Ross’ early design during battles), and completing it on at least hard unlocks the Green Goblin. Unlike the others, the Goblin uses gadgets instead of Spider-web-based Man’s abilities, such as his signature glider, pumpkin bombs, and razor bats. While the levels remain unchanged when playing as the Goblin in story mode, the narrative changes and follows Harry Osborn as he becomes the Goblin after his father’s death and investigates a secret plot involving Oscorp, while facing off against another Goblin who claims to have been hired by Norman Osborn.

More playable characters, such as the Shocker and Captain George Stacy, can be unlocked using cheat codes, but they only serve as alternate skins for Spider-Man and do not introduce any new gameplay mechanics. Mary Jane Watson was initially unlockable via code as well, but was removed in re-releases due to the perceived lesbianism implications of scenes featuring the player (as Mary Jane) kissing the in-game Mary Jane.

  • Ever 17 The Out of Infinity

Ever 17 The Out of Infinity

    Game Description

KID created the visual novel video game Ever 17 The Out of Infinity. It is the second installment of the Infinity series, following Never 7: The End of Infinity, Remember 11: The Age of Infinity, the spin-off 12Riven: The Psi-Criminal of Integral, and the reboot Code 18. It was first released on the PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast in Japan on August 29, 2002, and was later ported to Microsoft Windows, PlayStation Portable, Android, and iOS. Hirameki International released localization of the Microsoft Windows version in North America in 2005.

Ever 17 The Out of Infinity follows Takeshi Kuranari and “the Kid,” a boy with amnesia who is trapped inside an underwater theme park with a group of other people after a leak has flooded parts of the park; they cannot contact people on the surface, and the park is expected to implode after 119 hours due to high water pressure. The gameplay consists of the player reading the game’s story and making decisions that affect the story’s direction, leading to one of several possible endings.

Takumi Nakazawa directed the project, as did writer and planner Kotaro Uchikoshi, character designer Yuu Takigawa, and composer Takeshi Abo. Because the science fiction aspects of Never 7 were well received, Ever 17 was created with a greater emphasis on science fiction. Ever 17: The Out of Infinity has received positive feedback, with critics praising its story, characters, music, and graphics as among the best in its genre.

In 2011, 5pb. and Cyberfront released Ever 17, a remake for the Xbox 360. It includes several changes to the story and characters, as well as additional illustrations by Takigawa and new music arrangements by Abo. The original visual novel’s 2D sprites were replaced by 3D models because 3D models were thought to be easier to animate.

  • Star Trek Legacy

    Star Trek Legacy

Star Trek Legacy was originally scheduled for release in the fall of 2006 to coincide with Star Trek’s 40th anniversary, the Windows version did not arrive in North America until December 6, 2006, and the Xbox 360 version did not arrive until December 15. On December 22, 2006, both the PC version and the Xbox 360 version were released in Europe.

In the game, players command a fleet of various Federation starships (up to four) in combat against various races across three different Star Trek eras. Star Trek Legacy marks the first time that the five actors who played each of the captains in the five individual Star Trek shows, William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bakula, have all worked on the same project at the same time. The PC version of Star Trek: Legacy received mostly negative feedback, whereas the Xbox 360 version fared slightly better with critics.

    [title] Gameplay

Players command a squadron of one to four 3D-modeled starships and engage in battles with other starships. Pitch, yaw, and forward propulsion are used to control the movement of the starship (as well as a straight-line “warp” capability for rapid movement across a map). Movement takes place in a fully 3D “pizza box” environment. The player controls a single starship at a time, controlling weapon fire, movement, and repairs, and can switch between each of their squadron’s starships. Players can also switch from a 3D display to a top-down 2D tactical display, from which they can issue specific commands to ships in a task force; for example, the player can order a ship to warp to a specific point on the map.

The viewpoint can be controlled in a variety of ways, with players able to “lock” onto an opponent to ensure that the opponent is always in the center of the screen, to look straight ahead, or to rotate the camera around the selected ship. Starships are classified based on their weapon strength and maneuverability and are assigned a set number of points that roughly correspond to the ship’s strength. The player earns “command points” during each mission and can spend these points between missions to add new ships to their squadron.

Aside from the linear campaign, there is also a customizable skirmish mode. The map on which to play, the number of ships per squadron, the number of command points allowed, the race and allegiance of each AI player, and the composition of their own squadron are all chosen by the players. In skirmish mode, players are not limited to controlling Starfleet vessels as they are in the campaign; they can also control ships from the various races encountered in the campaign, such as the Borg, Klingons, and Romulans. The “coop wave” mode is a mode of play included in later versions of Star Trek: Legacy in which a player (along with up to 6 other “squadrons/fleets”) defends a station from assault by increasingly difficult-to-defeat enemy fleets that increase in gradual waves. Bethesda has also released a mission editor tool that allows users to freely customize missions.

The PC version of Star Trek: Legacy includes a number of modification tools. The “Ultimate Universe Mod” is one such mod, which allows players to use a mass armada (with both sides’ ships chosen from a list of 450+ starships from all races) or battle with pre-determined ships for both sides. Ultimate Universe introduces a new mode called “Historical Battles,” in which players can fight famous Star Trek battles from multiple perspectives.

  • The Warriors

    The Warriors

    Game Description

The Warriors is a 2005 beat ’em up video game developed by Rockstar Toronto and published by Rockstar Games, based on the 1979 film of the same name (which was based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel). It was released in October 2005 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and in February 2007 for the PlayStation Portable; Rockstar Leeds worked on the PSP port. The Warriors was also released on the PlayStation 3 in May 2013 and the PlayStation 4 in July 2016 through the PlayStation Network. Set in gritty 1970s New York City, the story follows the eponymous street gang as they are falsely accused of the murder of a respected gang leader and are forced to return to their home turf in Coney Island while being pursued by rival gangs and the police. The Warriors expands on the plot of the film, with the first half covering events that occurred three months prior to the film.

The gameplay is centred on large-scale brawling in 3D environments, with other activities such as chase sequences interspersed. Score to the warriors game includes songs from the film’s soundtrack; however, as of 2016, some of them, including “I Love Livin’ in the City” and “In the City,” had been removed from the PS3 and PS4 versions due to licensing restrictions. Several cast members from the film reprised their roles in The Warriors. The Warriors (what channel is the warriors game on tonight) received overwhelmingly positive reviews after its initial release.

    [title] Gameplay

The Warriors is an action-adventure survival game that emphasizes brawling. Several minor gameplay elements, such as the ability to use spray paint to mark turf or insult other people, are incorporated into the experience. Score to the warriors game (Warriors leader) Cleon, lieutenant Swan, heavy muscles Ajax and Snow, Cleon and Swan’s friends Vermin and Cowboy, scout Fox, Harlem native Cochise, and Rembrandt, the Warriors graffiti artist, are all playable characters. In each mission, the player can only control one character, while the others are controlled by the computer. The most prominent characters are Cleon, Swan, Ajax, and Rembrandt. The Warriors game attack rival gangs’ territory in most missions, though there are five bonus “flashback” missions that explain how certain members joined the gang; all gangs, except the Destroyers, are taken from the film, though some are only mentioned or briefly featured and never fought against, namely the Electric Eliminators, Panzers, and Van Cortlandt Rangers. After completing the main storyline, an arcade game called Armies of the Night is unlocked. Swan and Ajax are the two playable characters.

The Warriors’ headquarters serves as a central location. From within, the player can train (10 ranks of physical fitness such as sit-ups, press-ups, chin-ups, and heavy bag, which increase stamina), converse with fellow gang members, play through rumble mode and other bonus material, walk outside to Coney Island for extra missions, or begin the next level of the story proper. Mission objectives include beating up a certain number of enemy gang members or stealing a certain amount of items, as well as more complex and creative tasks such as winning a graffiti competition in SoHo, stealing goods to plant on corrupt cops and rival gang members, and wild chases away from Baseball Furie’s members wielding baseball bats. Fighting is done in the style of a gang rumble, with the player being assisted by other Warriors at the same time (a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 8). Combos consist of 2-3 button chains for weak attacks, strong attacks, holds, and throws. Grab attacks allow the playable character to perform their own unique power attack, which quickly depletes the enemy’s health. The Warriors fight their way through the ranks, gaining a strong reputation and displaying their colors proudly until they are invited to a meeting of all of New York City’s gangs, which is where the film (and the last few missions of The Warriors) begins.

The Warriors progresses in a linear fashion from one mission event to the next, which is usually represented by a cutscene. In The Warriors (what channel is the warriors game on tonight), combat takes place in real-time, with players pressing buttons to initiate attacks by the on-screen character. By pausing The Warriors game, the player can discover combat techniques such as 2-3 combos, wall smashes, grab and throws, charges, body cross attacks, snap attacks, weapon attacks, and counter-attacks. The player can view the stats of the character. This menu is controlled by the right analog stick, while movement in the 3D environment is controlled by the joystick, and camera controls are managed by the up arrow on the digital pad and the analog joystick, allowing the player to navigate the menu while avoiding or approaching enemies. In addition, players have the option of mugging people, receiving money, flashing, and spraying graffiti. Items such as car radios and jewelry are available for the player to collect or steal at each level.  Completing these actions grants the player points, which can be used to unlock soldiers, arenas, and game modes in Rumble Mode, what channel is the warriors game on tonight’s free-for-all multiplayer mode.

The playable character has a health bar beneath their feet that decreases whenever they take damage, but it can be replenished by using flash. The circular grey bar inside the health bar represents the player’s grappling stamina, which depletes when they grab or mount an opponent. The top-left hand side represents the character’s rage meter, which when full allows the player to perform a variety of combos and styles. In a rage, the player becomes temporarily invincible, capable of performing finishing moves and inflicting significant damage on the opponent. If the player’s allies are knocked out, the player can use flash to heal them. If the playable character loses all of their health, the mission is over and the player is prompted to resume from the checkpoint or restart the mission from the beginning. Defeating enemies causes items to fall from their bodies, flash to restore health, spray to spray over enemy gang territories, and money to be spent on items from dealers.

The PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube versions debuted in November 2005, followed by the PC version in March 2006 and the mobile version in March 2007. After True Crime: Streets of LA in 2003, this is the second and final installment in the True Crime franchise.

Marcus Reed, a former New York City gang member turned police officer, is the protagonist of True Crime New York CityTrue Crime New York City. Reed witnesses the death of his mentor on his first night on the job after being promoted to detective in the Organized Crime Unit. Reed sets out to find out who killed his friend and bring down the mole, with the help of an FBI agent investigating a mole in the OCU. True Crime: New York City includes a 25-square-mile (65-square-kilometer) recreation of Manhattan, with GPS accuracy for most street names, major landmarks, and highways.

New York City received mixed reviews from critics and overwhelmingly negative reviews from gamers, with critics and gamer reviewers citing numerous technical and graphical glitches, leading many to speculate that the game’s final stages of development were rushed in order for it to be released in time for Christmas. True Crime: New York City was also a commercial failure, selling only 72,000 units across all platforms in North America in its first two weeks of release, far less than Streets of LA. Its underwhelming critical reception and poor sales figures contributed to the True Crime franchise’s demise. Originally planned as the first of a two-part series set in New York and starring Marcus Reed, Activision scrapped the direct sequel and put future True Crime games on hold due to the game’s poor performance. They hired United Front Games in 2007 to create an open-world game set in Hong Kong. By 2009, True Crime New York City had evolved into True Crime: Hong Kong. However, True Crime New York City was canceled in 2011. Square Enix acquired the publishing rights several months later, and True Crime: Hong Kong was eventually renamed Sleeping Dogs, with no ties to the True Crime series. Activision dropped the True Crime trademark entirely in 2014.

    Gameplay

    PlayStation 2 and GameCube

This version of Bratz Rock Angelz is a free-roaming adventure. The player takes control of one of four Bratz girls (Yasmin, Cloe, Sasha, and Jade) who are attempting to start their own teen magazine.

The player can travel to four different locations: Stylesville (home of the Bratz), London, Paris, and the mansion. When the player moves the correct Bratz girl to a speech bubble, the game’s objectives are activated. During Bratz Rock Angelz, blings, which are coins for the Bratz girls, appear. Each girl carries a cell phone, which she uses to send messages between characters, check the number of blings she owns, and find out where the next objective is. The phone’s cover and ringtone can both be customized. The player can also collect character token coins, which can be used to purchase movie clips. Each Bratz girl has a total of 25 available. Players can also take pictures and play minigames for extra money in Bratz Rock Angelz. The player can apply make-up to the girls as he or she sees fit. The Bratz can be led to stores to purchase the latest trends to complement their bling collection.

Minigames are activated by going to certain locations or talking to non-player characters. They include:

    Game Boy Advance

The Game Boy Advance version follows the same plot as the console version but has its own set of tasks. Completing tasks in Stylesville, where you live, allows you to make progress. The girls travel to London halfway through the story to prepare for a London show.

    Microsoft Windows

The game’s Microsoft Windows version differs from the console version. It is based on the plot of the film.

Bratz Rock Angelz has a total of nine objectives. The odd-numbered objectives (chapters 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) are mini-games in which the player must complete tasks in order to earn points. Each mini-game consists of four rounds. When a player takes or misses apart, he or she receives fewer points. After three misses, the player must repeat the round, losing a number of points. Except for the final objective, the player can use points to unlock fashions for the Bratz girls.

The even-numbered objectives (chapters 2, 4, 6, 8) are adventure games with puzzle elements. The player must interact with a specific Bratz character and collect items in order to solve a puzzle (for example give a camera to a colleague). The player can photograph the objectives in order to print them from the “Secrets” menu. To complete a part of an adventure objective, the player must create an article, logo, flyer, or poster. The player can even create and print their own design. This section is accessible via the “Secrets” menu.

When the player completes Bratz Rock Angelz, they will be able to play Top Trumps, a card game similar to war. Each turn, the player is dealt a card with a number total on it. The player must guess which number on the card is greater than the number on the opponent’s card. If they are correct, they will win the card. They continue to play until one of the players has all 28 cards in his or her possession.

After Jade is turned down by Your Thing magazine, the girls decide to launch their own publication to compete with Your Thing.
