Game Description

Based on the popular children’s books I Spy, Black Hammer Productions created the Point & Click PC game I Spy Spooky Mansion, which Scholastic released in 1999.

The game starts with the player at the front door of an eerie home. Once inside, they find themselves confined. The “Guide,” a skeleton named Skelly (voiced by Amy Birnbaum), informs the player that they need to gather puzzle pieces in order to get out of the mansion. They search the mansion for secret passageways or words scribbled at the bottom of the screen. When every item in a location has been located, Skelly shows up and hands the player a puzzle piece. The player can acquire directions to Skelly’s hidden library study by assembling the 15 puzzle pieces they’ve collected into a picture frame.The player pulls three books in the blue, green, and red order as instructed by Skelly. This unlocks the secret door to Skelly’s study by moving the head on the bookshelf. Following that, the player can return to the main door of the mansion by climbing down a rope with Skelly and making their way out of the window. The player is then permitted to reenter the house to finish further I Spy puzzles. Next, the player has to find the ingredients for Shrinking Soup, Skelly’s favorite soup. The player can eat the meal and escape the mansion through a mousehole next to the front door after acquiring all the ingredients.This hole takes the player back to the front door of the mansion, where Skelly greets them and asks them to come inside for one last game of riddles. To make their third escape, the player needs to gather all the components needed to fix Skelly’s ghost machine. The player’s task after fixing the machine is to create ghosts out of different items found around the estate. The seventh and last ghost is revealed once the other six have been created. Skelly enters the machine through a crawl and changes into the “Get-Out Ghost.The player is propelled out of the mansion and through the chimney by the “Get-Out Ghost.” The game ends with Skelly congratulating the player on his successful escape.
