Game Description

Freelancer is a space trading and combat simulation video game published by Microsoft Game Studios and developed by Digital Anvil. It is the direct sequel to Digital Anvil’s Starlancer, a combat flight simulator released in 2000. Chris Roberts first announced the game in 1999, and it was finally released in March 2003, after many production schedule mishaps and a Microsoft buyout of Digital Anvil.

Players assume the roles of spacecraft pilots in the game. These characters pilot single-seater ships as they explore the planets and space stations of the 48 known star systems. They also engage in dogfights with other pilots (both player-controlled and computer-controlled) in order to protect traders or engage in piracy themselves. Bounty hunting and commodity trading are two other activities available to players. In the single-player mode, the player takes on the role of Edison Trent, who must complete a series of missions in order to save the Sirius sector from an unknown alien force. In multiplayer mode, players can take on any role and explore any location from the start.
