Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is an action platformer played in the third person. The is set on several fictitious planets. The player plays Buzz Lightyear, who must race a villain to the finish of each level, where they will duel. Throughout the race, the player must defend against a variety of opponents who attempt to halt Buzz. Throughout each level, the player can earn coins to buy weapon upgrades, shields, and vehicles including a hoverboard, a jet bike, and a jet pack. If the player defeats the villain until the level’s end, Buzz’s partner Mira will appear briefly to drain some of the villain’s health, making the battle simpler for the player. After completing a level, the player can revisit it in one of two game modes, both of which offer medals if completed. In one game mode, the player must navigate the level to gather bits of Buzz’s robotic buddy, XR; in the other, the player must complete the level within the time limit.
