Asteroids Download For Windows PC

Game Description

Asteroids is a space-themed multidirectional shooter arcade game created by Lyle Rains and Ed Logg and released by Atari, Inc. in November 1979. The player pilots a lone spaceship through an asteroid field frequented by flying saucers. The goal of the game is to shoot and destroy asteroids and saucers while avoiding collisions and being hit by the saucers’ counter-fire. As the quantity of asteroids rises, the game becomes more difficult.

Asteroids game was one of the first significant hits of the golden age of arcade games, selling over 70,000 arcade cabinets and proving popular with both players and developers. It was adapted to Atari’s home systems in the 1980s, and the Atari VCS version sold over three million copies. The game was widely duplicated, and it had a significant impact on Defender, Gravitar, and many other video games.

Asteroids were devised after a meeting between Logg and Rains, who opted to use Howard Delman’s gear, which had previously been used for the Lunar Lander. The physics model, control method, and gameplay features of Asteroids game were developed from Spacewar!, Computer Space, and Space Invaders and refined through trial and error. The game is rendered in two dimensions on a vector display that spans around both screen axes.

Asteroids Download For Windows PC Gameplay

Asteroids’ goal is to destroy asteroids and saucers. The player is in command of a triangular ship that may rotate left and right, fire straight forward, and shove forward. Once the ship starts moving in one direction, it will continue in that route indefinitely unless the player applies thrust in a different direction. When not thrusting, the ship finally comes to a halt. The user can also send the ship into hyperspace, causing it to vanish and reappear in a random spot on the screen, risking self-destruction or landing on top of an asteroid.

Each level begins with a few huge asteroids arcade game moving in different directions across the screen. Objects wrap around screen edges, such as an asteroid that wanders off the top edge of the screen and reappears at the bottom, continuing to move in the same direction. Asteroids game break up into smaller asteroids that move quickly and are more difficult to strike as the player shoots them. Smaller asteroids video games also have a higher point value. Two flying saucers emerge on the screen at random; the “large saucer” shoots randomly and ineffectively, while the “little saucer” fires regularly at the ship. Only the little saucer appears after earning a score of 40,000. The angle range of the projectiles from the small saucer decreases as the player’s score grows until the saucer fires exceedingly accurately. After clearing the screen of all asteroids arcade game and flying saucers, a fresh batch of big asteroids video game appears, kicking off the following level. The game becomes more difficult as the number of asteroids video game increases until the score hits between 40,000 and 60,000. The player starts with 3-5 lives and receives an extra life for every 10,000 points earned. The game continues until the last ship is lost, at which point it is over. The machine “turns over” at 99,990 points, which is the highest possible score.

Lurking exploit

Saucers were planned to start shooting as soon as they emerged in the initial game design, but this was modified. Furthermore, saucers can only aim at the player’s ship on-screen; they cannot aim across a screen boundary. These behaviors enable a “lurking” tactic in which the player remains near the screen’s edge opposite the saucer. A player can gain points endlessly by maintaining only one or two pebbles in play and shooting across the boundary and destroying saucers. Arcade operators began to complain about income loss as a result of this hack. As a result of the impact of this attack, Atari (and other businesses) revised their development and testing methods to try to avoid future games from having such exploits.
