Game Description
Area 51 is a 2005 video game that is a science fiction first-person shooter. Midway Studios Austin created it, and Midway published it for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows. A Nintendo GameCube version was apparently in the works, but it was quietly scrapped. It is a loose remake of the same-named light gun video game from 1995, and it was followed in 2007 by the loosely related BlackSite: Area 51. The player takes control of Ethan Cole, a HAZMAT operative dispatched to Area 51 arcade game to assist with the cleaning of a mutagenic virus.
David Duchovny as Ethan Cole, Marilyn Manson as Edgar the ancient and powerful Grey, Powers Boothe as Major Bridges, Nolan North as McCann, and Ian Abercrombie as Dr. Winston Cray are among the notable voice performers.

Area 51 is a first-person shooter in which you play as the protagonist, Ethan Cole. In addition to the player’s arsenal of weaponry, the game includes functioning machinery such as artillery turrets.
To defeat their opponents, the player uses a range of weaponry, both human and extraterrestrial in origin, throughout the game. Most weapons can only be held with one hand, although others, such as the Shotgun and Sub-Machine Gun, may be used with both. Each weapon can also be utilized as a close-quarters melee weapon. Each weapon has two ways of fire, the first of which is the primary method, and the second of which has a significantly higher power level at the expense of ammunition and accuracy for the player. Explosive grenades can also be used by the player.
Midway through the game, Ethan Cole becomes infected with the mutagen and gains the ability to temporarily transform into a mutant. Mutating provides a range of benefits, including enhanced strength and stamina, as well as the initial capacity to fire health-replenishing parasites and the latter ability to contaminate adversaries, both at the expense of reduced mutation time. While in mutant form, players can easily identify opponents that would otherwise be hidden from the naked eye, but with a minor ocular impairment.
Players can recover their health and mutagen by using medical syringes located around the game or by employing parasites, and mutagen through melee combat, “using” infected corpses, or collecting mutagen syringes.
The capacity to scan and evaluate various items in the gaming world is a key component of gameplay. This is accomplished by utilizing the scanner located on the player’s costume, which is worn during the game. The player has no access to weapons when using a scanner and must switch to an available weapon to combat (though they could still melee). Scanning gives a player precise information about their surroundings as well as combated opponents.
When equipped, the scanner adds a translucent bar to the player’s HUD that changes color and height from light blue to deep red. This bar shows how close or distant a player is to one of several scannable hints, such as file folders or personal digital assistants. The scanner can acquire data from things without touching them. When the player is very close, the HUD turns red, and when the player is very far, it turns blue. Scanned items can be viewed in-game, providing insight into the workings of Area 51 as well as unlocking secret recordings recorded by Dr. Cray or Mr. White.
